Bob Dylan is rather superb...

Good afternoon.
Thanks so much for everyone who's commented or followed recently. You guys are le shiz.
These are the lyrics to one of my favourite songs "Lily, Rosemary and The Jack of Hearts" by Bob Dylan. You might not like the song itself, it's sort of country and fairly repetitive, but I highly recommend you read the lyrics. It's a narrative about this group of criminals led by "The Jack of Hearts" who come into this town to rob a bank. While most of them are breaking into the bank, "The Jack of Hearts" is in the cabaret, distracting everyone and he gets in the middle of all the other stuff that's going on with the corrupt rich guy, his unhappy wife and his young, gorgeous mistress. It's so cool.

"The festival was over, the boys were all plannin' for a fall,
The cabaret was quiet except for the drillin' in the wall,
The curfew had been lifted and the gamblin' wheel shut down,
Anyone with any sense had already left town,
He was standin' in the doorway lookin' like the Jack of Hearts

He moved across the mirrored room, "Set it up for everyone," he said,
Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads,
Then he walked up to a stranger and he asked him with a grin,
"Could you kindly tell me, friend, what time the show begins?",
Then he moved into the corner, face down like the Jack of Hearts,

Backstage the girls were playin' five-card stud by the stairs,
Lily had two queens, she was hopin' for a third to match her pair,
Outside the streets were fillin' up, the window was open wide,
A gentle breeze was blowin', you could feel it from inside,
Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts

Big Jim was no one's fool, he owned the town's only diamond mine,
He made his usual entrance lookin' so dandy and so fine,
With his bodyguards and silver cane and every hair in place,
He took whatever he wanted to and he laid it all to waste,
But his bodyguards and silver cane were no match for the Jack of Hearts

Rosemary combed her hair and took a carriage into town,
She slipped in through the side door lookin' like a queen without a crown,
She fluttered her false eyelashes and whispered in his ear,
"Sorry, darlin', that I'm late," but he didn't seem to hear,
He was starin' into space over at the Jack of Hearts

"I know I've seen that face before," Big Jim was thinkin' to himself,"
Maybe down in Mexico or a picture up on some body's shelf,
"But then the crowd began to stamp their feet and the house lights did dim,
And in the darkness of the room there was only Jim and him,
Starin' at the butterfly who just drew the Jack of Hearts,

Lily was a princess, she was fair-skinned and precious as a child,
She did whatever she had to do, she had that certain flash every time she smiled,
She'd come away from a broken home, had lots of strange affairs,
With men in every walk of life which took her everywhere,
But she'd never met anyone quite like the Jack of Hearts,

The hangin' judge came in unnoticed and was being wined and dined,
The drillin' in the wall kept up but no one seemed to pay it any mind,
It was known all around that Lily had Jim's ring,
And nothing would ever come between Lily and the king,
No, nothin' ever would except maybe the Jack of Hearts

Rosemary started drinkin' hard and seein' her reflection in the knife,
She was tired of the attention, tired of playin' the role of Big Jim's wife,
She had done a lot of bad things, even once tried suicide,
Was lookin' to do just one good deed before she died,
She was gazin' to the future, riding on the Jack of Hearts

Lily washed her face, took her dress off and buried it away,
"Has your luck run out?" she laughed at him, "Well, I guess you must have known it would someday,
Be careful not to touch the wall, there's a brand-new coat of paint,
I'm glad to see you're still alive, you're lookin' like a saint."
Down the hallway footsteps were comin' for the Jack of Hearts,

The backstage manager was pacing all around by his chair,
"There's something funny going on," he said, "I can just feel it in the air.",
He went to get the hangin' judge, but the hangin' judge was drunk,
As the leading actor hurried by in the costume of a monk,
There was no actor anywhere better than the Jack of Hearts

No one knew the circumstance but they say that it happened pretty quick,
The door to the dressing room burst open and a cold revolver clicked,
And Big Jim was standin' there, ya couldn't say surprised,
Rosemary right beside him, steady in her eyes,
She was with Big Jim but she was leanin' to the Jack of Hearts

Two doors down the boys finally made it through the wall,
And cleaned out the bank safe, it's said that they got off with quite a haul,
In the darkness by the riverbed they waited on the ground,
For one more member who had business back in town,
But they couldn't go no further without the Jack of Hearts,

The next day was hangin' day, the sky was overcast and black,
Big Jim lay covered up, killed by a penknife in the back,
And Rosemary on the gallows, she didn't even blink,
The hangin' judge was sober, he hadn't had a drink,
The only person on the scene missin' was the Jack of Hearts

The cabaret was empty now, a sign said, "Closed for repair,"
Lily had already taken all of the dye out of her hair,
She was thinkin' 'bout her father, who she very rarely saw,
Thinkin' 'bout Rosemary and thinkin' about the law,
But, most of all she was thinkin' 'bout the Jack of Hearts"

Finally...

Erimentha and Camelgirl have tagged me with this blogger tag created by Sabine. Here are the rules:

Choose 1 picture that makes you cringe.
Choose 2 pictures that you could stare at for 5 hours.
Chose 1 picture that shows a situation you want to be/ want to be in before you die.
Link 3 bloggers.
Link back to Sabine and the person who tagged you :)

90's fashion. Ick.

Gorgey, Anyone? He's one of my favourite "Gilmore Girls" character and his smile is soo nice.

I love "500 Days of Summer". I could watch it again and again.

I've always wanted to be a writer of some kind. A journalist or an author preferably. Also, isn't this the loveliest photo?
I'm tagging this onto: Athena, Miffie and Catherine.
Eri also tagged me for the One Lovely Blogger Award, which is lovely of her and very exciting. Thankyou! What I have to do for this one is list 7 things I love right now and then link it along:
1. The occasional rain, thunder and lightning (very very frightening).
2. "The Little Rascals". Cutest movie ever.
3. "Ghost's Child" by Sonya Hartnett. It's just the loveliest story.
4. Starburst lollipops.
5. Shady parks.
6. My blue and white sunnies.
7. Brown leather things. (Bags, shoes etc.)
And now I'll tag this along to: Camelgirl and Catherine.

P.S. this took me like a week to do. No clue why...

I really do love this world quite a lot...

Good evening everyone,
How are you all tonight?
Why do we always want to know? What makes us want to know what the meaning of life is? What happens after we die? If there's a god, if there's more than one? Of course, those questions have each their own answers. We want to know the meaning of life because we fear there isn't one, we wonder about the end because we're afraid that it really is the end and we hope for a god because we're afraid that it really is all down to us. It feels to me like it all comes down to fear. Why can't we accept life as we see it and just live? We all search for the peace we'll find in knowing, but I think there's a certain peace in feeling that what you know is all you need to know. I'm not anti-science or anti-religion, but I don't think these things, these questions, should dominate us. I just wish we could all take a deep breath and live.

Remember to smile...

The ever wonderful Sanchez posted her monthly Bridget Lowry Inspired Post and I thought I'd follow her lead. Here we go.

I like sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.
I love remembering and anticipating.
I wish everyone could be happy and we could all smile together.
I remember going to the beach every day after school.
I will never finish loving the world.
I used to be sad and angry and feel unwanted.
but now I know better and I find myself rather happy.
If I had a magic wand I'd make the grass green, the sky blue and shape all the clouds like hearts.
and if I was god I'd live in those heart shaped clouds.

"Young people think oldness is the bottom of a mountain. In truth, it is the top. I am old, because I have lived a whole life. I have climbed a long, long way. When I look back the way I have come, I can see the town I was raised in, and my mother and father. I see houses I lived in, friends that I made, people and pets that I loved. I see the wrong turns that I took, places where I tripped, places where I skipped and sang and ran. I can see for years and years. To have such a view, you have to be standing at the top of a mountain."

"Love is like moonlight or thunder, or rain on a tin roof in the middle of the night: it is one of the things in life that is truly worth knowing."

-Some lovely quotes from "The Ghost's Child" by Sonya Hartnett.

Dont' call me a Twi-hater. That's just buying into the craze.

Hello everyone,

I'm not trying to sound morbid, but if I see a Twilight star on the front of one more magazine, I may be forced to kill myself. It doesn't help that I help the Twilight saga in the first place, but surely even the biggest fans are sick of having the air-brushed faces of Robert Pattison, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart jumping out at them wherever they go. Let's have a look at the latest issues of Dolly and Girlfriend shall we?

I must say I'm rather impressed with Girlfriend, they managed to get all three on the cover. Joy. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Twilight stars appear on the covers of both these magazines about three months ago? And about three months before that? When will it end? Also, I was looking through recently added photos on weheartit and found two Twilight pics on the second page. I won't post them because I really am that sick of their faces. There is no escape!

Cassie's Therapy Video...

The uber cool Catherine (so uber cool that she made me use the word "uber". 3 times...), who shares my name, tagged me for Cassie's Therapy Video, a tag that I love and am completing for the second time. First, I shall tag it along to:

Camelgirl, who tagged me for this a while ago and who is the ultimate bomb diggity.

Smileyfreak, because she is the best commenter ever.

Morgan, 'cause she's almost done with exams and school!

The task: fill in 12 likes, 1 love and 8 hates like Cassie in her therapy video. Below, the bolded things are what you MUST include. Also, please link it back to me, and link it onto 3 other blogs you admire! Good luck! Oh, by the way, you have to watch Cassie's therapy vid (linked above) to fully understand this post...or just love Skins!
Abracadabra, Wow!
I like boys who can dance and girls with big smiles.
I like "Skins".
I like junk food but it's bad for me.
I like red cordial.
I like picnics in Spring.
I like duffel coats.
I love my super cool bright orange umbrella, cos even when it's raining, it always feels sunny.
Today I found out that I still have baby teeth and no big ones to replace them.
In some ways, I love everything.
Its less, its less of a thing to like, its less distinct, its less particular
I like things that I like but I love everything
There’s more choice in like
Cos even the worst things have things you love in them
I don’t know what you mean about things I hate
I hate
mosquito bites.
I hate it when it's too hot to sleep with a doona; I can't get to sleep.
I hate getting bad marks.
I hate that I hate getting bad marks.
I hate belly-dancing. *Shudder*
I hate being bored but in a way, it's relaxing.
I hate pimples, especially when they're painful.

Dear Santa...

I would quite like a boy who:

-Respects my opinions even if he doesn't agree with them.

-Understands that just because it's a bit girly, and he doesn't like it, the Gilmore Girls is a good show.

-Doesn't judge based on peoples tastes.

-Has good taste.

-Never, ever comments on what I eat. Ever.

-Wouldn't define me as "talkative" because they know that what I say is more important than how much I say.

-I can talk to.

-Knows who Bob Dylan is. I've found out some people don't. Shame.

-Can appreciate Bob Dylan and The Beatles even if he doesn't like them.

-Likes Choc Wedges.

-Wears board shorts not speedos. Shudder.

-Likes to dance like an idiot. With me.

-Never makes sickeningly sweet lists about the girl he wants.

-Knows that actually yes, we do still need feminists.

-Buys considerate gifts, not just cliches.

-Is ambitious.

-Has a good taste in jeans and shoes.

That's all, Santa. I'm not really asking for too much am I? Thank you,
Cat xx

Two priests, a rabi and a duck...

I have a confession to make.
I love jokes. Now that's not actually the confession, but I'll get there. I have a ridiculously good memory for things like names, scripts, phone numbers and jokes. Long ones, short ones, ones that are so mean I wish I'd never heard them, I know them all. Actually, some of the jokes I tell are hilarious. The problem is that they're looooong. So what happens is, I'm about to tell a joke and I think to myself: "What a wonderful wooorld.". No sorry, I'm kidding. I think: "Why bother with a funny long joke, when I could just tell one of my equally great, short ones?". That sounds good on the face of it. The problem is that they are not equally funny. Not even a little bit. Here's the real confession: I find bad jokes hilarious. I force them on to the ones I love. To me, a well worded and clever blond joke isn't anywhere near as funny as:
"Why didn't the skeleton go to the dance?"
"Because he didn't have the heart!"
I laughed for 20 minutes the first time I heard that. Or:
"What did one rock say to the other rock?"
"Nothing, rocks can't talk."

What did the other rock say back?"
"Hello, I'm a magical talking rock!"
I don't know what it is about jokes that are...well, crap, but I just can't get enough. The main problem is that, in case I wasn't already socially awkward enough, this is another trait of mine that causes normal people to back away slowly. Sigh... I just don't understand how anyone could not find this funny:
"Why is a duck"
"Because two legs are both the same!"
Cat xx
ps. I realise it's a bit ridiculous to refer to blond jokes as good, but they're better than the jokes I tell. Trust me.
pps. That last joke doesn't make sense. That's the point.
