Road Trip

I've been rather stuck for things to write about for a while now. Maybe it's the holidays, but I've found myself devoid of original thought. That's what the holidays always seem to do. Before hand I think to myself "This is great, I'll be able to write more blogs and such.". But really, the mental stimulation of school is what enables me to think of interesting blog topics. Well, it appears so, anyhow. All I can think to post about is what I've been doing, and I don't think you'd find that particularly interesting. I've decided that in a few years time (when I'm 17 ish), I'm going to go on a road trip. Don't you think that would be seriously awesome? I don't even really like the idea of driving. I don't want my own car. But I'll get my license all the same and then hire a car with a friend (Joel, hopefully. It was him that I planned it with) and travel around Australia.

There's a movie called "Elizabethtown" starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. Maybe you've seen it. Anyway, it was on tv one night. I wasn't really paying all that much attention to it, to be honest. However, near the end, it got interesting. Kisten Dunst's character tells Orlando Bloom's character to go on a road trip. She makes him a massive scrap book thing and he doesn't open it 'till he's on the road. When he looks at it, it's filled with maps, ideas of obscure things to go and see and mix CD's that he has to listen to at particular points of his journey. That was when the idea of a road trip first appealed to me. How fun would it be to plan out your trip, music and all, and then just travel around for ages? To bring just the most basic things, spend most of your time in your PJs and eat pre-packaged food? To be independant, seeing places you've never seen before?

Music sounds good...

So it's late on a Sunday night, you're absolutely tuckered out from having guests over for dinner and from the first week of the jolidays in general. You haven't gotten to bed before 11:00 for weeks, and you've been having trouble sleeping. However, you love your readers, and would hate to leave them yet another day without any kind of post. It's been almost a week since you last posted, and that wasn't a real post even. Basically, you fail. So here you sit now, writing (well, typing) about it all. What do you do know? Post a playlist, of course! In light of how awfully sleepy I am, this is a playlist of songs that I find soothing:
Good Morning, Heartache by Billie Holiday
Caroline, No by The Beach Boys
If You See Her, Say Hello by Bob Dylan
Misere by The Cat Empire
Blackbird by Evan Rachel Wood (originally by The Beatles)
Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie by Joanna Newsom
Don't by Elvis Presely
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot by She and Him (very old, traditional song)
A Song For You by Sleep Decade
Little Red by Kate Nash
I feel bad because I always tend to prefer the "Across The Universe" versions of The Beatles songs more than theirs. I would just like to say that I do like The Beatles own versions as well.

Plastic Knife...

"I lay my filthy blanket down on the pavement and spread out my wares for the world to see.
I hand-wrote a sign on the grime encrusted cardboard of a box I found in the gutter.
The sign said, 'Will cure a broken heart'"

It's just like that time in "Gilmore Girls"!

I have a confession to make: I have an unhealthy addiction to "Gilmore Girls". You may not already know this because I try to keep my blog interesting and that doesn't involve my going on about something you probably don't care about. If I was letting myself really write whatever came to me, there would be at least three quotes a post. this post however, is dedicated to my addiction.
Every day I quote "Gilmore Girls" multiple times. When I'm around close friends it's usually ok. They laugh (at me not with me), shake their heads, possibly hit me and we all move on. When I'm in less familiar company however, things are different. The problem with my quotes are that usually they are not particularly witty or even that closely related to the conversation. I am just reminded of a certain moment and never think that maybe no one else cares. So whoever I'm talking to says something and I say:
"Ahahaha, it's like that time in "Gilmore Girls" when..." and I quote it.
Everyone politely listens under the impression that there will be some sort of punch line. I stop talking and everyone stares at me in awkward silence, and I am forced to say something like:
"Yeah...It's not actually that funny I just thought of it then."
This of course doesn't explain much to someone who doesn't know me well, but we move on. These people will now forever think of me as 'The weird "Gilmore Girls" freak'. Delightful.
In case you thought from what I first said about my close friends, that they don't really mind my quoting, let me assure you, you're wrong. I have at least three friends who have never seen an episode of "Gilmore Girls" but nevertheless know all the characters, who dates who and many of the central plot lines. This information is not welcome to them. At all. My quotes have been met by screams of anguish and wails of "Why me?" by my closest friends, who have to put up with them the most. You may be wondering why I don't just stop quoting. But I don't think I can. It's a serious condition I have; let's call it "Gilmoregirlsquotatitus", and there is no cure. Well, that's my excuse.

Catch my disease...

Summer is on it's way and I have the same condition that I get every year: season envy. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Otherwise known as nevereversatisfied disease, but more specific, those with season envy can never enjoy the weather. They want more. Each year in summer, I sit in my light clothing in front of a fan complaining about how much I hate it and how I wish it was winter. "In winter," I say, in my try-hard smart voice, "you can escape the cold. All you need is a jumper or a blanket. Summer is inescapable. If you have clothes on you're hot and if you take them off you're hot and burnt." This is true, but when winter comes around, I'm singing a different tune. I miss summer, I tell everyone. I miss swimming, cold drinks, watermelon and dresses. I miss the pool, the beach. My friends glare at me, irritated with my impossible to please nature.

You might think that spring and autumn are perfect for me. Well, you are sorely mistaken. Sure, during summer and winter I say that I like autumn and spring. A perfect balance, not too cold or hot. But during spring my hay fever starts up, and autumn is dull. These are my complaints at the time anyway. The problem with season envy is that there is no real cure. I will forever be unsatisfied with the weather. It's a curse really. Cue sob story music.

Jenny Kiss'd Me

Jenny kiss'd me when we met,
Jumping from the chair she sat in,
Time, you thief, who love to get,
Sweets into your list, put that in,

Say I'm weary, say I'm sad,
Say that health and wealth have missed me,
Say I'm growing old, but add,
Jenny kiss'd me

I had to recite a poem in English and I thought this was very sweet indeed. So sweet that I thought I'd post it here. Hope you like it.

COLLINGWOOD

The Adelaide/Collingwood game was awesome. It was one of the best games I've ever been to, possibly the best. We (my dad and I, and basically the whole Collingwood crowd) were feeling pretty dismal at half time, but then in the third quarter, wham! 6 goals to none. We're awesome! The third quarter led to an extremely stressful fourth however. In the last 3 minutes or so Adelaide got ahead by 1 point and we couldn't tell when the game was ending exactly, but then, in the last minute, we got a free kick and the winning goal. I was bunching my scarf in stress for the last few seconds but then the siren went and dear lord the cheering was loud. I find going to the AFL such an "Aussie" experience, in a stereotypical way. It's cool. Fair dinkum mate.

These are a few of my favourite things...

Today has been absolutely wonderful. Due to parent/teacher interviews, school finished at 12:25 (rather than 3:05), meaning I could go out for lunch with friends and hang around Lygon St. Joolz and I went to "Poached" (my favourite cafe. Delicious coffee. Tasty toasties. 'Nuff said). While we were there Tara and Lily turned up, so we all had lunch together. Yum.
After lunch we walked down to a nearby op shop and looked around for an hour, talking to the owner and trying things on. If your an op shop nut like me, you'll understand how divine it was. In the end I found four things I wanted to buy, but I didn't have any money on me. Two pairs of shoes, a bag and a pair of sunnies.
Meanwhile mum was at school talking to my teachers. In fact, I realised she'd be just about finishing. So I called her and asked about one of the pairs of shoes and if she could come any buy them. This is the practical pair (the others are white heels) so I was fairly sure Mum would say yes. I always need new shoes. About 10 minutes later Mum turned up and I showed her all four things in the minuscule speck of hope that she'd let me get them. SHE SAID YES!!! She ended up paying for both pairs of shoes completely and I only have to pay for half of the bag and sunnies, which I don't even need! I know this is a bit of a "dear diary" post, but I'm on such a spending high at the moment, it's fab.
I really like vintage stuff. All of these things have rocketed up onto my favourite possessions list. What's you're favourite possession?

Things I would do if I ruled the world:

1- Legalise gay marriage.
The fact that gay marriage isn't legal yet is wrong on so many different levels. I'm not saying that everyone should believe in gay marriage. It's completely fine that some people believe marriage should be between a man and woman, but there's no need for those people to rob others of their rights. You don;t need to be gay to see that the fact that gay marriage is illegal is wrong. I'm not gay and I can.

2- Give every high school student a laptop computer.
Just like Kevin Rudd said he would but didn't. Hmph.

3- Make National left-handers day a public holiday.
That one's for all my lefty friends. It's also a little bit because I love public holidays. Well, that's half of it actually... Fine, three quaters. And yes, there is a national left handers day. Awesome.

4- Rid the country of homelessness.
Easy peasy, oui? Ok, perhaps not, but I would stop turning a blind eye and take some real steps towards a solution. The upper middle class is far too fond of superiority.

5- Give out free cup cakes to everyone.
It's about time.

Things that I'm loving at the moment:

Excersise:
Over the past three days I have gone on two jogs around the block. You prbably think that's a ridiculous blip of a thing and not even worth pointing out, but for me it is alot and very impressive. I also play netball twice a week and walk for about half an hour a day to and from the tram. Ok, so that's a bit pathetic by normal standards, but I'm taking baby steps. It's not the actual excersise I enjoy, but the feeling that I'm doing something good for my body.

Lemon Sorbet:
As you may know, each issue of Frankie includes a recipe. This issue it was for lemon sorbet. I am an awful cook, but this looked simple so I decided to make it, and it was delicious. Yes, it is yet another reason for everyone to scurry off to the news agency and buy the latest issue!

Poached:
My absolute favourite cafe. It has tres delicious coffee and juices, and very yummy toasted sandwiches. If you're near enough you should definitely head down to it. It's near the corner of Lygon Street and Glen Lyon Road in Carlton, Melbourne.

Bubble Struggle 2: Rebubbled:
Since getting Facebook I've become head over heels addicted to this game. You play a devil man and you have to shoot the bouncing bubbles. My sister plays it as well and she's a good twenty levels ahead of me. I must beat her!

Check it out...

Two of my lovely friends (Loz and Bee) and I have started a joint blog. It's quite different to this one, but I think you'll like it nonetheless: Purple Big Brains. I've learnt that one blog is never enough. I crave more and now I have it. Everything has worked out rather nicely, don't you agree?

I found this so hilarious when I found it. I'm a little bit lame.

P.S If you scroll over th bit up there that says purple big brains it is a link. I don't know why it's black. Grr

Disney...

Dear Readers,

I am very, very sorry. The blogs I've started lately have been shoddy and I haven't been posting. I even posted one and then deleted it. Shame on me. However I now find myself inspired by one of the coolest people who has ever lived: Walt Disney. I've been buying old Disney videos this year because old videos are being sold for just a couple of dollars. I don't know about you, but I actually find Cinderella and Snow White (as characters, not movies) extremely irritating. They're too girly and passive. Here are a few of my favourite Disney Films:

Aladdin:
Aladdin is my absolute favourite Disney film and my equal favourite film of all time. Robin Williams is awesome as the genie, Jasmine is one of the Princesses with an actual personality and I love Aladdin. He's super sweet. I also think that the story line has merit beyond the love stuff. I love the characters. All of them. My favourites are Aladdin(of course), Abu, the genie and the Emperor. "One Jump" and "Friend Like Me" are two of the best songs ever written.

Hercules:

Once again, I love Meg because she's not just a damsel in distress. I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but she makes it work. I find Roman and Greek mythology and gods really interesting so the fact that its based around them is great. Also once again, the plot is interesting. Hades is the best villain ever. I love the goddesses who tell the story and the music is lovely. Pegasus is adorable.

Beauty and The Beast:

This story is just reaallly sweet. The idea that Belle and The Beast fall in love is, well, refreshing really. Belle's nerdiness is endearing and it's interesting how there isn't really anyone evil in it. Obviously Gaston is the villain, but he's not evil, just a wanker. I do have one problem with it though: Why doesn't "The Beast", as he is so kindly known, have a name? But yes, other than that it is absolutely wonderful.
